Are You With The Midi?

September 3rd, 2010

So every new season brings something that well, one might approach with caution. Last season for me it was the clog. This season it is the midi. Ever since Louis Vuitton’s brilliant collection graced the catwalks with their full-flowing skirts that finished below the knee, but above the ankle, the midi was always going to be on the cards.

Some midi style tips:

  1. Balance full-circle midi’s with narrow tops.
  2. It is essential to show of your waist, so get your belts and cropped jackets at the ready.
  3. Letting the hem of your skirt peep out from under your coat is perfectly acceptable.
  4. Add some glamour the LV way with a corset style top.
  5. Layering is perfect for the midi, but be sure to balance with accessories such as belts and chunky boots.

Get A Bootcut

September 2nd, 2010

Along with the return of the wonderful and flattering tailored trouser, it’s also the turn of the bootcut jean to make a comeback this winter. A classic style universally known for being endlessly flattering and easy to wear. The style is called bootcut as it is best employed to cover the shape of a boot. Bootcut styles flatter lots of figures, not just curvy girls for which they are well-known to balance the hips. Bootcut jeans work with almost anything and are perfect for dressing up or  down.

My favourite bootcut are the classic 7 For All Mankind, that never fail to make me feel great when I put them on.

Maximise Your Maxi

September 1st, 2010

So one of the hangers-on from summer is the maxi. This winter the maxi will be just as present and correct as it was in the summer, although adopting its own take on the new style rules. Whether it is cool cashmere or luxe jersey, the navy, grey and black palettes will be the best way to work this new urban chic.

Some top tips: Layer up your maxi with a sleeveless cardigan and a multi chain necklace for a sophisticated day look. Mix with some some sharp tailoring for that minimalist pair-down chic. Swap your denim jacket for an aviator jacket, a perfect accessory for an understated jersey dress. Make a statement with your maxi, perhaps an unexpected detail or print.

Not Just For The Weekend

August 27th, 2010

Having worked in the City some years ago and then moving onto fashion an retail, there was was a shift in my wardrobe, from the corporate and formal to the laid-back luxe.  I can now genuinely dress up jeans and wear them to work. I definitely fall into the less conventional work wardrobe that has a mix of smart with the edgy.

I still have plenty of friends who work the corporate model and most do feel the need to wear the traditional office get-up. Is this still necessary? Has the world of lawyers, accountants and bankers not moved on and realised you can still do professional with style. I am sure it is possible to work new season trends into your work wardrobe and still look the business. Just look at some of these examples.
